What is intComp?

intComp is an initiative started by Kaelan C. and Oscar P. to create and share helpful resources about various apsects of coding, including general programming concepts, web development and Python.

As part of intComp, we would create presentations geared on specific topics, with the aim of being fairly intuitive. These presentations could be presented to a class, or simply read by themselves. Ultimately, the presentations are made with one question in primarily mind: "how can this concept be explained in practical terms?".

For example, many tutorials teach that classes represent real-life objects that have attributes and functions, using the example of a car or some other thing. But a more practical explanation is that objects are just fancy dictionaries that can have functions. Yes, it doesn't explain the conceptual and abstract, but it is more helpful for someone trying to learn why something is useful and how it works.

What is Coding Club?

Coding Club was started by Kaelan and Oscar to help teach students how to code and, hopefully, inspire others to code too.

We noticed an absence of any real push towards digital technology in our school, with most of the focus of the TAS (Technological and Applied Studies) faculty being towards engineering, despite coding becoming an increasingly in-demand skill. Moreover, our friends with projects across the TAS subjects would ask us to help them code or to teach them.

We saw an opportunity to give back to our community by sharing our knowledge with the rest of the student body. With the ideas of intComp in our minds, we aim to teach coding practically. What's useful, why it's useful, and how to use it.

So if you want to learn how to code — or if you just want to hang out — everyone is welcome at Coding Club. We're in room 169 every Thursday lunchtime.

Does it work?

Yes! It definitely works. We've been very pleased with the feedback we've been getting. Many people have told us how easy it just clicked in their head.

Each week, we almost always have a full house, with quite a few regular attendees. Recently, we've been getting around 24 people excitedly showing up every Thursday Lunch, eager to learn how to make their own websites. Most of the people who first attended when we started on the 25th of July, 2022 still show up today!

The Founders

Kaelan Carlos Kaelan Carlos a.k.a. kElnaDev

I'm Kaelan and I love to code. I've coded all sort of things, from multiple websites in HTML, CSS/SASS, JS/TS, PHP, and SQL, to Conway's Game of Life in Java. Aside from coding, I have a passion for teaching and aspire to one day become a teacher in either technology or maths. I also love gaming (usually Minecraft or Mario Kart 8) and playing guitar.

Oscar Pritchard Oscar Pritchard a.k.a. OggyP

I'm Oscar and I also love to code, I also like automating things and programming ways to make life even slightly easier. I particularly love free and open source software, especially Linux. I primarily often code websites, and do server administration.

Our Collaborators

Ben Pratley Ben Pratley

We'd like to give special thanks to Ben Pratley. He is essential member of our team. He helps teach and looks over every project and presentation before it goes out and is shown at Coding Club. He also regularly gives feedback that is vital to us and to the improvement of our skills as communicators. He's been there from the start, and we greatly appreciate his undying support.
